Portfolio Critique by Scott Trees
Whenever I look at a photograph I always ask my self, "How could this be better?” I apply this premise not only to my own work, but to the work of other photographers as well.
Whether amateur, hobbyist, or pro, everyone can benefit from an objective, experienced opinion given with the educational intent of improving their photography. Finding someone that will offer such a critique with the purpose of helping you improve is not always that easy. Many either a) tell you what they think you want to hear, or b) rip it apart without offering any solutions on how to improve.
My approach is centered on trying to help you improve and learn. Portfolio critiques provide a vital educational element to becoming a better photographer. I attempt to offer an informative, constructive critique by sharing many years of international photographic experience. My goal? To offer suggestions and guidelines that help you compose a more powerful, improved image. I see a lot of good images that can be made better with a few minor, but important, compositional modifications. Students are amazed at how such changes can make a more powerful image.
Portfolio critiques include a PDF from with an overview of your work as well as individual critiques on each image you send in. In some cases I actually re-edit your photograph to better demonstrate what I am talking about. Each critique includes up to 10 images. After you receive the critique I am more than willing to discuss any comments and answer any questions. Upon registration you will receive the technical information regarding how to upload the images for review.
MaryJane B. had this to say, “I am so happy to have sent my images to you and I thoroughly enjoyed your critique.”
